v1.5 is the follow-up free digital-only release to v1. We use a very distinct nomenclature to organize and represent the releases. Releases are titled numerically starting with v1. Phonetically this would be "version 1". Each new incremental release is numbered according to the style and intent. Releases named as fractions of a whole (such as 'v1.5', v2.5') feature the more experimental side of synnack and are usually more ambient/experimental in nature.
v1.5 is a 20 minute ambient noise work created using a number of techniques. Some of the source material used was created by rendering graphical images as sound, live instrumentation, programming, and random sequence generation using an application called 'sounder' to send MIDI data to a range of virtual samplers and synths. This was before I discovered things like Max/MSP so at the time this was pretty interesting stuff to me and I still really like this release overall.
The artwork for this release (included in the zip) is a photograph taken by my father after Hurricane Katrina. After our family home was destroyed by the storm, he was forced to live far from work and take the bus in at the crack of dawn with many other survivors every day. He died several months after this photo was taken.
